.38 Special

Anyone who has ever seen .38 Special live can picture this: Donnie Van Zandt, who the band identifies as 'the hardest working man in rock and roll', running and spinning across stage with his guitar while Don Barnes belts out some intense vocals.
The unique sound of .38 Special is a blend of hard-kicking southern rock, with just a bit of mellow, topped off by intensely smooth vocals. What a combination!
Some favorite .38 Special tunes:
- Chain Lightning
- Caught Up In You
- Rough Housin'
- Fantasy Girl
- If I'd Been the One
- Twentieth Century Fox
- Back Where You Belong
- Long Distance Affair
- Rockin' Into the Night
If you only buy one .38 Special disc, I would strongly recommend the 2-CD Anthology set. It is packed with all their best and being two discs, has room for some stuff (like Chain Lightning) that they left off their Flashback CD. And you should really consider the Live at Sturgis CD, which features the band in their best element, in front of a rowdy crowd.
The band still tours on a regular basis and is well worth the admission price.
IF I'D BEEN THE ONE Lyrics
(D. Barnes, J. Carlisi, D. Van Zant, L. Steele)
I've been lost inside, empty space in my heart
And some things never change, no
How it hurts me and how it's tearin' me apart,
and it just goes on and on
Can you read my mind, take a good look at my face
Could you take the time,
just to stand here in my place
What if I'd been the one to say goodbye, goodbye
Could you smile when inside you just wanna cry,
look inside
Can you read my mind? Oh oh
When I hear your name, feel so cold deep inside
Still it's hard to explain, oh
But you're not meant to be,
they say time will heal the pain
But it just goes on forever
Can you read my mind,
have you closed the door on love
Can you be so blind,
did you think I'd just give up
Chorus:
What if I'd been the one
to say goodbye, goodbye
Could you smile when inside
you just wanna cry, wanna cry
What if I'd been the one
to say goodbye, goodbye
Could you smile when it hurts
so deep inside, and it never fades away
Fade away
(Solo)
Time can't erase the reasons why
I count my mistakes and the heartaches
since you said goodbye
(chorus)
Never fades away, no it don't fade away
